Welcome on the web site of the Thalassemia Society which is an NGO (Non-Governmental
Organisation) dedicated to the well being of Mauritians who are touched with Thalassemia
which is a genetic blood disorder.
The Thalassemia Society is a recently created NGO duly registered with The Registrar of
Associations on 01 October 2009 bearing Registration No: 11194.
Aims and Objectives
•
Provide moral support to all persons with thalassaemia and their families to
overcome their emotional and psychological problems;
•
counsel & educate thalassemics and their families on the management of
Thalassemia;
•
campaign for blood collection for Thalassemic patients;
•
advocate for creation of better transfusion & treatment facilities;
•
raise funds and provide equipments and medicines for under- privileged
thalassemic patients;
•
create awareness among public & advocate for screening and counselling
programmes for control of thalassemia;
•
promote collaboration with Ministry of Health and Quality of Life, NGOs, W.H.O.,
and Regional and International Thalassemia groups and societies like Thalassemia
International Federation; and
•
provide support to patients of other genetic haematological disorders.
